Manly Whingers Outraged by Tourists Wearing Board Shorts in Winter

Manly, NSW – The Manly Whingers have found a new grievance: tourists donning board shorts during the colder months. “It’s an affront to our sensibilities,” claimed local fashion critic Hugh Jass. “Manly has standards, and this is simply unacceptable.”

The Whingers argue that inappropriate seasonal attire is causing a visual disturbance. “We can’t have people wandering around looking like they’re ready for a summer surf when it’s clearly winter,” fumed Stan Still, a self-appointed arbiter of local decorum. “It’s confusing and frankly, it’s just wrong.”

Suggestions have ranged from implementing a seasonal dress code to hiring fashion police to patrol the streets. “If they want to fit in, they need to follow our norms,” insisted Bea O’Problem. The proposal has sparked heated debates on social media, with many calling it an overreach. “Manly is supposed to be laid-back and inclusive,” commented one local. “This is taking things too far.”

The Northern Beaches Council has remained noncommittal. “We encourage all visitors to dress comfortably and appropriately for the weather,” said a council spokesperson. “However, enforcing a dress code for tourists is not currently on our agenda.” Tourists, meanwhile, seem unfazed by the controversy. “I didn’t realize my shorts would cause such a stir,” said one visitor from Queensland. “I just wanted to enjoy the beach.”

Local shops selling beachwear have also been caught in the crossfire. “We stock what sells,” said one shop owner. “If tourists want board shorts in winter, who are we to say no?” The Whingers, however, remain undeterred, promising to escalate their campaign if necessary.
